Cosmic Elixir

The lemon peel disappeared. And the zest is history.

Today is National Liqueur Day, the day where we raise a glass (or a shot) to our favorite boozy elixirs, has a history as vibrant as the liqueurs themselves.

While the origins are a bit hazy, it’s safe to say that people have been enjoying liqueurs for centuries. These flavorful spirits have been crafted by monks, herbalists, and bartenders who’ve mixed, infused, and aged ingredients to create the luscious liquid treasures we adore today.

Today, I marked the occasion by crafting a cocktail inspired by elements borrowed from Robin Karides’ (@thehousemouse) Mint Chocolate Lemon Cocktail (after all, aren’t most cocktails a twist on something else?). I proudly present to you: the Cosmic Elixir!

Cosmic Elixir

  • 2 oz vodka
  • 1 oz white crème de cacao (or dark)
  • 0.5 oz light crème de menthe (or green)
  • 0.5 oz lemon juice
  • 1 dash of Ms Better’s Bitters Miraculous Foamer 🛟 (or 1 egg white)
  • 2-3 dashes of chocolate bitters (to garnish)
  • 1 mint leaf (to garnish)
  • Vigorously dry shake all ingredients, except chocolate bitters and mint leaf
  • Add ice and give a long shake
  • Fine strain into a chilled cocktail glass
  • Top foam with a couple of dashes of chocolate bitters and mint leaf

Alcohol: 29% Sugars: 15 g

The beauty of National Liqueur Day is that it’s a time for everyone to savor the sweet, the spicy, and the smooth in a glass. So, whether you’re into creamy Irish creams, zesty citrus liqueurs, or the herbal wonders of Chartreuse, join in the fun on this fantastic day and toast to the world of liqueurs! Cheers to National Liqueur Day – a celebration as rich and layered as the liqueurs themselves!
