A skeleton walks into a bar and says, ‘Hey, bartender. I’ll have one beer and a mop.’
Hey there, Happy New Year and Happy Bloody Mary Day! Who doesn’t adore a brunch in a glass, right? Today, I went off-piste and crafted a twist on the classic Bloody Mary called the Bloody Maria, swapping out vodka for tequila. It’s a delightful concoction with a spicy kick and a tangy punch!
The Bloody Mary (or in this case, the Bloody Maria) is this fantastic cocktail known for its tomato juice base spiced up with dashes of hot sauce, Worcestershire sauce, and various other seasonings. It’s like a savory garden in a glass!
What makes these drinks even more fun is raiding the fridge and pantry for garnishes! I raided mine for scallion, avocado, bacon, cilantro, and a side cup of pistachios. The possibilities are endless—basically a drink and a snack all in one!

Bloody Maria
- 6 oz tomato juice
- 2 oz tequila reposado
- 1/2 oz lime juice
- 1 tsp horseradish
- 3 dash Worcestershire sauce
- 3 dash hot sauce
- 3 dash celery salt
- 3 dash pepper
- Bloody Mary’s and Bloody Maria’s are not shaken or stirred, but “tossed”:
- Add ingredients to shaker
- Add ice to serving glass
- Pour ice into shaker, then pour all contents back into serving glass
- Garnish to your heart’s desire!
