Schrödinger’s cat walks into a bar. And doesn’t.
Today is National Love Your Red Hair Day! As a spirited redhead who has a penchant for tequila, I couldn’t resist infusing a bit of my fiery personality into the Devil’s Margarita, or “Margarita del Diablo.” You see, my earlier years were rife with friendly banter about my vibrant red locks, and I suspect those playful jabs might be the reason I developed a taste for tequila.
To truly make “La Colorada” my own, I decided to give it a personalized twist. I introduced jalapeño-infused agave syrup, which not only mirrors my spicy disposition but also adds an extra kick to this cocktail. And let’s not forget the saline, a nod to my sometimes salty sense of humor.
La Colorada
- 2 oz La Gritona Reposado Tequila 🛟 (or other Tequila Reposado)
- 1 oz lime juice
- 3/4 oz jalapeño-infused agave syrup
- 1/2 oz Ancho Reyes Chile Liqueur 🛟
- 1/2 oz red wine
- 1 drop 20% salt solution
- Shake all, except wine with ice
- Strain into a chilled cocktail glass
- Float red wine (see Layering Cocktails)
- Float a dehydrated lime wheel
Alcohol: 22% Sugars: 18g
Jalapeño-infused agave syrup
- Add a diced jalapeño to 80 g of hot water and let sit for 3-5 minutes
- Strain and mix the water into 270 g of agave syrup
So, if you happen to savor the delightful flavors of “La Colorada,” it wouldn’t hurt to offer a lighthearted thank you to those childhood jesters who inadvertently inspired me to craft this delectable spin on a timeless drink. Cheers to embracing the quirks that make us who we are, and to sipping on a little piece of my redheaded rebellion!
